How Now?

A plaudit of Paul's epistle (formal letter) written to the Colossians (at the city of Colosse in Asia Minor/ Turkey)

Paul had heard that the Christians in that particular city had developed an idea that because `-> how to act now in living witness (take part as "lively stones") for Christ

The highlight of the book is found in 2:19: "And not holding the Head, from which all the body by joints and bands having nourishment ministered, and knit together, increaseth with the increase of God." - indicative of the shift from God's character as Providence into that of Paraclete (see also Christendom - Fulness: Feeding of the Multitudes)

As one aspect of the new covenant (good will toward men), this juxtaposition of God's benison effectively allows all men the same kind of interface with the godhead to which Moses was reported to have been privy. Thus the least of the accords, [Will -> Covenant -> Law -> Command ->] Sign [-al] (the sort of gifted intervention typical of blessings & benedictions), is altered from a character of condescension to one of concession.

There is resistance to any idea that such close supportive interest from God might be (or even ought to be) made palpable; the oft used figurative story being that of the stranded flood victim whose wrong- headed waiting on God to save him leads him to reject offers of rescue from providential local sources. In the same way the assertion: "[A]ll things work together for good to them that love God." is ordinarily imputed a macrocosmic or ramifying slant, rendering it: "All things will work out for the God we love.", whereas an individual's expectation is mostly pie in the sky bye & bye. These, along with the "What would Jesus do?" formula in place of "What would I do in the spirit?", seem to have a tendency to erase the feeling of the virtual presence of God from one's daily walk: God's role being pictured as just laying on the cross/ example that one is expected to take up.

In part, this resistance is in reaction to the perceived extremism of groups which have made efforts toward the indoctrination of spirituality or the systematization of divine agency as addressed in the Colossians' situation. In fine however, a feeling has developed that hopefulness no less must lead to some sort of misconception which assumes too much and places the relationships of God with his children on the wrong footing. Yet, it's still as valid as it ever was to claim that those who put God first do well to turn to God first. So Paul's affirmations of Christ in you as the elect of God, delivered even to these gentile converts that their hearts might be comforted, are still dear to us today.

`Brief: admission by admission (confession)= the seal of the Holy Spirit (Eph 1: 13 & 14) is manifest as one's testimony to personal guiltiness of sin and natural enmity toward God & peace (confirming and witnessing that no one can say: "Jesus is (my) lord" (ie testify) except by the Spirit) - you get to be the chief (of sinners)

`Brief: as evolved from: "The beginning of wisdom is the fear of God.", here the attainment of wisdom is in a closeness to God =revelation - and the closeness is (visited) for/ upon all; rather than in a personal journey to wisdom, as indicated in the dispensation of Eph 3:10's "manifold wisdom"

Call to discipleship= deny self (self), take up cross (others) & follow (Jesus).] here we'll have outlined an "equipping" process path (pastor Alberty says one must first be at peace with God, then with oneself, in order to then be at peace with others, and hence to be reformed to the peace of God passing understanding - 4th wk Advent 2013) of preparing yourself, then living sacrificially for Jesus, and ultimately seeking to bless others; just as Jesus notes in his requirements of prayer and fasting in pursuit of an exorcism.

`ref 2:10 spiritual convocation of Christians is comparable to manifestation of Christ - circumcision reference is indicative of his speaking to a covenant provision ("reward") - covenant association for a believer, as: "the faith of the operation of God", hinges upon Christ's crucifixion, burial, revival & ascension; and is attained by baptism (being with Christ in this regard) - quickening then emphasizes freedom: a life of escape from the bondage of mortality in flesh (sin & death), vanity (doctrines & judgment), substance (powers & ordinances), and perception (shows & times - shadows)
