Herod's Palace Advent-ure: operational notes The game mechanic focuses on "set & get" type pairs of related entries. When the get entry happens to be visited prior to its related set entry, no Countenance award can be garnered for that pair. Given the 11 pairs at a potential +1 bonus each, gaining enough Countenance to win the game shouldn't be too great a difficulty. For a future, more advanced version of the adventure, in place of voiding a location when a reference creates a revisit, each location might be broken down into two (2nd on revisit/ been here before): eg Baths into Sauna & Portico, Gallery into Exhibit (-ion) hall & Promenade. The catalog format used is intended as a gaming approach to make following the season of Advent rather maze- like and adventurous by its superficial confusion of options. Someone of Mr. Monk's orderly persuasion or with a built- in anticipation would likely find the more traditional style of Advent calendar to be preferable. The rule noting that once entries begin to be revisited the selected destination will initialize at A and scan forward from there is a clue to the inadvisability of picking A as the location to start the game with. There's no implied best strategy for choosing between the Next options given in an entry for the following day's location. These references run through all possible locations in both the first and the second, so they've been left as is demonstrably. They could be alphabetically reordered at the end of each entry without ill effect. Consult the palG4.txt file if interested in a symbolic diagram of the specific layout in full.
